Lincoln Park Zoo and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) reserve the right to modify or amend this Privacy Policy at any time for any reason. If this occurs, you will be prompted to Accept the policy at your next login to the site.

The Site

This site (www.pmctrack.org) is administered and maintained by Lincoln Park Zoological Society, 2001 North Clark St., Chicago, IL 60614, USA, for the benefit of zoo and aquarium population management programs of the AZA. The site was developed in collaboration between Lincoln Park Zoo (LPZ), AZA’s Population Management Center (PMC) based at LPZ, and AZA.

The site collates data from:

  1. Breeding and Transfer Plans published on the AZA website or otherwise in the public domain (for historic plans never posted on the AZA website);
  2. Studbook databases collated in the course of AZA management and provided to the PMC;
  3. Individual institutions, which submit data to the site via wants & needs surveys and outcomes surveys;
  4. AZA’s database of cooperative management programs, the people connected with those programs (Program Leaders, Studbook Keepers, Institutional Liaisons, Institutional Representatives, etc.) and the contact information (institution, email, and phone number) for those individuals.
  5. AZA’s institutional membership database and the Species360 institution list for data on individual institutions (institutional mnemonic, location, collection size, acreage, etc.)
  6. Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Regional Collection Plans (RCP)
  7. General data from the PMC’s work with AZA’s Animal Programs (e.g. meeting dates, etc.)

All data are used to monitor and understand the AZA cooperative management system with an ultimate goal of developing sustainable animal populations.

Participation & Access

A select group of authorized users has access, via secure login, to the data on this site. Each user has restricted access based on their institution and the role they serve in the AZA cooperative management system. The viewable access levels and associated data subsets are:

  1. Program Leaders (Species Survival Plan® (SSP) Coordinators and other program leaders of AZA managed Animal Programs) = restricted to data on the Animal Program they are responsible for coordinating
  2. Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Chair or Vice-Chair = restricted to data on the Animal Programs in their TAG
  3. AZA Animal Programs Management Committee Members = restricted to data on the Animal Programs for the TAGs for which they serve as Liaison
  4. Institutional Liaisons = restricted to data on the Program Leaders at their institution and any breeding and transfer recommendations issued to their institution for any Animal Program
  5. Institutional Representatives = restricted to data they submit in wants & needs/outcomes surveys as requested by the Program Leader via PMCTrack
  6. Staff at AZA, the AZA PMC, the AZA Reproductive Management Center, and PMCTrack development staff at Lincoln Park Zoo = no restrictions, can access data across all programs

AZA encourages participation in PMCTrack because it enhances the ability to use PMCTrack data to improve the AZA cooperative management system in the long-term and, ultimately, will enhance the sustainability of animal populations.

Use of Data

We will never share your personal information (e.g. contact information) with other organizations. Information collected by us or submitted during registration or use of this site is only for the purpose of maintaining this site and the material contained on it and for internal purposes including customer support, website administration, and feedback purposes.

Data submitted by or on behalf of a participating institution in PMCTrack surveys will be maintained confidentially and will be accessible by that participating institution (through their IR/IL), the relevant Program Leader, TAG Chair, and APM Liaison, and the AZA, PMC, and RMC. It will not be viewable by other institutions’ Institutional Liaisons or Institutional Representatives.

Data collected from AZA’s public website (Breeding and Transfer Plans) and from the Studbooks will be restricted to relevant Program Leaders, TAG Chairs, and APM Liaisons, and the AZA, PMC, and RMC.

Data summaries and scientific publications based on the full dataset (across all AZA programs) will maintain anonymity of institutions and specific programs (SSPs, TAGs, etc.) unless permission is specifically requested from the relevant parties.

AZA and AZA Board-Level Committees and Scientific Advisory Groups working on its behalf may analyze and act upon PMCTrack data to improve the cooperative management system. The RMC may utilize summarized data from PMCTrack for Reproductive Viability Analyses.

Requests to the PMC for summarized output from PMCTrack by interested parties will be handled on a case-by-case basis. For any requests for data exports, Lincoln Park Zoo and AZA will require review of a brief project proposal or description of planned data use. Lincoln Park Zoo and AZA may request closer involvement in the research project and/or review of any manuscripts depending on the complexity of the data processing or interpretation. If exports are provided, the interested party will sign a user agreement that conforms to the above policy about maintaining anonymity of institutions and specific programs unless specifically requested from the relevant parties.
